A Fun Night Out for Whatcom Center for Early Learning

As an agency, we’ve been supporting Whatcom Center for Early Learning as a member of our community for a few years now, but I personally have a deeper connection to Whatcom Center for Early Learning.  My son graduated from their program when he was three and at the time his prognosis was bleak but what they did for us was amazing and something we desperately needed.  For those who are not familiar with WCEL (Whatcom Center for Early Learning) or what they do, I’ll explain.  WCEL provides services and support to children, aged birth to three, and their families.  This early intervention is free and extremely helpful and crucial to each child’s success.  You can learn more about them here, WCEL

Coming up this month, is one of WCEL’s main fundraisers.  The 10^th Annual “Celebrating Children… Creating Futures” Auction which is on Saturday, March 15^th.  Anyone is welcome- so if you are looking for something fun to do on a Saturday night, this is the place to be!  Delicious dinner, incredible silent and live auction items, dessert dash (which can get pretty amusing) and delicious wine!

WCEL’s incredible journey was started by an amazing woman, wise beyond her years by the name of Anne Brown.  Anne Brown was hired by Whatcom County as a public nurse in 1968 to service children with developmental disabilities.  Partnering with local doctors such as Dr. Max Higbee (sound familiar? – Max Higbee Center), Dr. Geraldine Doll and Stacia Christopher, Anne helped improve the Special Education Preschool program and then in 1973 WCEL was born.  Learn more about their history here.             

I’m very excited to attend this auction not only because it is a blast (these people are really fun), but also because it supports such an important cause within our community.  So please tell your friends and join me at the Whatcom Center for Early Learning’s Auction on Saturday March 15^th- You won’t regret it!
