Bellingham Food Band and Whatcom Center for Early Learning

2014-11-11

Support the Bellingham Food Bank

& Whatcom Center for Early Learning

Can you believe the Holidays are right around the corner?!?  This year for the holiday season, our community outreach theme is CHILDREN! We are supporting two organizations that help the children in OUR community - The Bellingham Food Bank MilkMoney Program and the Whatcom Center for Early Learning. We are really excited to kick-start the giving season by supporting these two, great, local programs.  Here is some information on each organization and how you can help:

MilkMoney Program – The Bellingham Food Bank

Bellingham Food Bank receives thousands of visits each month. 35% of our clients are children – that comes out to be almost 4,000 KIDS!   Fresh milk is an essential ingredient for growing healthy bones and teeth. Each month we purchase milk from locally-owned dairies. They support Bellingham Food Bank by giving us a great price. But we still need help securing the amount of milk needed by food bank families. A little effort by a lot of people will help provide milk to Bellingham’s hungry kids. How can you help?  You can drop off a donation at our office, mail in a check or drop your change in the lobby piggy bank!  Our goal is to raise $1500 which will provide milk for two months!  All donations will be collected and dropped off at once with Mike Cohen, the Director.  Please make checks payable to The Bellingham Food Bank and reference the MilkMoney Program)

Whatcom Center for Early Learning (WCEL)

Affectionately known as the “Big Blue House,” Whatcom Center for Early Learning (WCEL).  WCEL provides early intervention services to children birth to three who have disabilities and/or development delays.   They are a small but close-knit, professional staff, very proud of the quality programming we provide to nearly 100 kids/families per month. This early intervention is crucial to the success of these children.  Cutting edge brain research shows that Leaning begins at birth. The clear link between early brain activity and brain development provides the building blocks for life-long learning and function. When there is a diagnosis of a disability or developmental concern at birth, or soon thereafter, early intervention results in greater developmental gains for a child. How can you help?  We will have a “wish List” and a “giving tree” in our lobby throughout the holidays.  You can pick a small or large item from the wish list and drop it off at our office or drop off a monetary donation.  We will deliver all the donations right before Christmas.  Here is a link to the wish list  that will also be posted in our office, through social media and on our website.

Please join us in supporting these important community organizations this Holiday Season – Together we can make a difference!   Thank you!
